The Old Vulpòt Mill in the Villaretto Hamlet
Centuries of work along the millrace.
In operation for over two centuries, the Vulpòt mill is an important testament to the local rural economy, centred on the grinding of grain and the harnessing of water power. It is now at the centre of a structural restoration and heritage project.
Site overview
The Vulpòt mill and the millrace that powered it were documented in their current location in the Rabbini Cadastral Survey of 1859–1861.
The building dates to at least 1682 and was likely renovated in 1715, as indicated by a date carved into the masonry alongside the initials F.B. = Ferro Brahij. It is referenced in documents from 1743 and 1753, and the mill continued operating until approximately 1960, grinding locally grown rye and maize purchased from the plains.
The machinery later deteriorated, but the mill is now being structurally restored as part of a heritage project.
How to visit the site
Continue along the SP32 (Via XXIV Maggio) past the parish complex, then reach the hamlet of Villaretto and turn right onto Via Arnas. Continue for about 100 metres; the mill is on the left. The site can be reached on foot or by car, with parking available near the mill.
