Rocca Provana, built in the 11th century by the Visconti di Baratonia and expanded by the Provana di Carignano, dominates the hill above La Cassa. The medieval castle, now in ruins, preserves four corner towers connected by walls and an internal cistern, bearing witness to the history and defense of the territory.

The ancient settlement, known as Rocca Provana, is a castle of medieval origin in Piedmont, located in the municipality of La Cassa. The original castle was built at the behest of the Visconti di Baratonia in the 11th century, who later sold it to the Provana di Carignano family; they expanded it by building the fortress that is still visible today. The castle stands on the summit of the hill overlooking the ancient settlement of Basso di La Cassa. The complex is now in ruins. It consists of four corner towers, one of which is taller and better preserved. The towers are connected to each other by a masonry enclosure, with a cistern inside.
How to visit the site
Follow the signs for the municipal cemetery of La Cassa, in via Mulino. You can leave the car in the open space at the beginning of the dirt road. You can continue on foot, keeping to the left. A few meters away is the ancient fountain. To reach the ancient settlement, from the dirt road, follow a secondary path that goes into the woods on the left. After a few minutes of walking on this path, you will reach the ancient settlement.
