With its 180 meters in length, the Ceres railway bridge is the most significant work of the Turin-Ceres line. Built in the early twentieth century, it is an early example of the use of reinforced concrete: the structure, dominated by a single 50-meter arch, stands out for a light and elegant aesthetic, typical of the great engineering works of the period.

Site overview

The arched bridge of Ceres over the Stura di Valgrande, located just before the terminus (the protection signal can be seen on the left), is undoubtedly the most notable architectural element of the railway. The bridge is approximately 180 m long, 50 of which are covered by the arch. As in all early realizations using the reinforced concrete technique, it shows a very light and elegant structure.
