TITOLO: Parish Church of San Giovanni Battista with Romanesque-style bell tower

CORPO: The parish church is dedicated to San Giovanni Battista. It was built following the destruction of the primitive small church that stood south of the so-called “pilone di Mathi”, on the plateau that existed between the town and the Cima la Villa hamlet, which was eroded and washed away by the extraordinary flood of September 17, 1665, which also destroyed part of the town of Pessinetto. The church, built in several stages on the site of a pre-existing small chapel dedicated to the Santissima Annunziata, does not have a regular plan and has a facade in neo-Gothic style. From the parish archive, it is discovered that in 1841 the bussola (inner door vestibule) of the main door was replaced and that in the period from 1870 to 1874 restoration works were carried out; from 1927, under the far-sighted pastoral guidance of Mons. Ernesto Formica, the entire building was renovated and parish life, despite the war years, developed various initiatives. In addition to the high altar, there are two other altars, one dedicated to the Madonna del Carmine and the other to San Giuseppe. Behind the church, for a long time, the cemetery was located. The bell tower, separated from the church by the old carriage road, was built in 1723 entirely at the expense of Archbishop Rorengo di Rorà. Adjacent to the bell tower is the rectory. In 2006, there was a new restoration, made possible by the offerings of the Community, contributions from local Associations and businesses, the CRT Foundation, and the C.E.I. (Italian Bishops). The first lot renovated the facade of the church; the second lot involves the Choir and the side Chapels.
