Museo Ca’ dou Rouset and the Lities Open-Air Museum
From house-museum traditions to the Levanne viewpoint.
In the hamlet of Lities, the "Ca’ dou Rouset" house-museum offers a journey into the rural past of Val Grande through 1,300 daily objects and reconstructed rooms. The experience is completed by a "diffused" museum route with QR codes, historic chapels, and a nature trail leading to a spectacular view of the Levanne massif.
Site overview
In Lities, the past is preserved in the “Ca’ dou Rouset” house, a period residence that safeguards the rural memory of the Val Grande. After visiting the two chapels of the village – one from the 16th century and the other from the end of the 19th century – a nature trail leads to the “L’eiràl dla bantchi” viewpoint, the perfect spot to admire the Levanne massif. In the hamlet of Lities, a location situated halfway up the northern slope of the Val Grande, it is possible to visit the “Ca’ dou Rouset” house-museum, a plunge into the past to discover the riches left by our ancestors. The exhibition collects about 1,300 objects of daily use and 200 paper documents, testimonies of the traditions, habits, and customs of ancient Lities, accessed through a path among the rooms of a dwelling from that era, faithfully reconstructed and furnished with period furniture and accessories. A journey through time to savor the life and sacrifices of past generations: the warmth of a stable, the tools of the hard work in the fields, the simplicity of a leaf mattress, and many other curiosities. Also in the hamlet, thematic information boards are placed at the points of greatest interest, equipped with QR codes that allow viewing video interviews with the protagonists of Lities, past and present. Two chapels are also open to visitors: the oldest dedicated to Saints Gratus and John the Evangelist, dating back to the 16th century, and the other dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes, built at the end of the 19th century. A short distance from the hamlet, the peaks of the Levanne can be admired via the nature path that leads to the “L’eiràl dla bantchi” viewpoint.
