A place of silence and history linked to the Alpine Guides.

Site overview

Monte Momello offers an extraordinary view over the terminal part of the Lanzo Valleys, the municipality of Germagnano, and the Tesso Valley. Access is via path from several points; from the hamlet of Margaula or from Sant’Ignazio. The site offers silence and relaxation at the Alpine troops’ hut. A silent place on the trail of the history of Alpine Guides.

How to visit the site

From the square of Germagnano, follow for a short stretch the narrow paved road that climbs to the Borgata Margaula. From here, continue on foot. To the left, alongside a stream, following the white markings, take path 351 which climbs through the woods, reaching the upper buildings of the Margaula hamlet; from here, at the last houses south of the hamlet at the end of the road (information board), the path continues, always excellently marked, performing a hillside traverse on the south side of the mountain. Upon reaching a junction (signposts), follow the track on the right which, being steeper, reaches in a few minutes the cross and the Alpine bivouac just below the summit of Monte Momello (755m). It is reached from Margaula after about 20 minutes of walking.
