Dating from the 1910s and associated with the celebrated film director Giovanni Pastrone, the Egg is a giant henhouse that fuses art, history, and imagination into a single, surprising structure.

Site overview

Past the houses of the hamlet of Richiardi, you can admire the curious monument commonly known as the “Pastrone Egg”.

It is a giant henhouse, over 6 metres tall, built of local stone and concrete in the unusual shape of an egg.

The structure dates from the mid-1910s, commissioned by Oscar Salussoglia and later sold by him to the celebrated film director Giovanni Pastrone, together with the property of the now eponymous Art Nouveau villa.
