The Saints Peter and Paul complex stands out with its unique features: a Baroque building with an octagonal layout topped by a false timber vault, making it a very rare example in Piedmont.

Site overview

In Foieri, visitors can explore the Saints Peter and Paul parish complex, which uniquely combines two churches, one Romanesque and one Baroque. The older church, with its bell tower, is an exquisite example of 11th-century sacred art from a time of revival in the Lanzo Valleys during the Benedictine influence of San Mauro di Pulcherada. Since the 17th century, it has served as the oratory for the Confraternity of the Holy Cross and houses valuable frescoes from the late 15th century.

The Baroque church, constructed in 1730 under the direction of provost Father Giovanni Antonio Genta, has an octagonal ellipsoid nave topped by a painted false timber vault, an uncommon feature in Piedmont. Its elegant double-leaf walnut portal is adorned with panels of polygonal patterns that enclose symbols of the patron saints, including crossed keys and a sword.
