The Chapel of the Madonna della Neve dominates the original core of Pascheretto, with a fresco by Marcolino Gandini inspired by Felice Castrati. The surrounding square preserves traces of civic and Baroque history, from noble townhouses to the old town hall with its prison and Banca della Ragione.
Site overview
The Chapel of the Madonna della Neve, located at the village’s centre, serves as the focal point of Pascheretto, one of the two original settlement clusters. These clusters originally consisted of houses around the parish church (the Paschero) and those around the Madonna della Neve.
On the chapel’s façade, there is a fresco by Marcolino Gandini, a contemporary painter who made Viù his home. He brought the experience from working in Felice Castrati’s studio, which is evident in the figures depicted in the artwork.
On the left side of the square stands an imposing Baroque building, possibly designed by Filippo Juvarra, that belonged to the Catocchio and Schiari families and housed the old Registry Office.
On the right side of the road, where a local craftsman’s workshop now stands, was the old town hall, which housed the prison and the Banca della Ragione.
